Tetronic and Tetramic Acids

These metabolites of bacteria, fungi or molds are frequently associated with biological activity. They may inhibit kinases and phosphatases crucial to the signal transduction of cancer cells, or enzymes such as hyaluronidases that are involved in the spread of solid tumours. Others are antibiotics or inducers of withering in weeds. Shown underneath is a collection of natural products synthesised by our group, some of them for the first time (*).
